Community Building Group

This summer, 15 SAYA! youth participated in a new Community Building program at the Elmhurst Center. Led by Richmond Hill Site Director Neha Gautam, the youth planted a community garden, created a compost heap, and practiced printmaking.

The youth selected and planted vegetables, herbs, and flowers in four beds including beets, beans, turnips, collard greens, carrots, peas, bok choy, swiss chard, cilantro, parsley, spearmint, and morning glory.

The printmaking activity was taught by local artist Sara Quinter. The group created t-shirts and posters with the slogan "Go Green." Extra t-shirts and posters were distributed as prizes at the SAYA! End of Summer Event.
